.MOBI Domain Name Registrations
More and more people use mobile devices to access the Internet, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is constantly growing. To meet this demand, the organization that supervises the generic top-level extensions, ICANN, introduced the .MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the concept behind this extension is that all websites that use it have to comply with specific restrictions. In other words, all dot MOBI websites should be designed to be accessed faultlessly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” drawn by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the .MOBI Registry. These involve how a page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.
The regulations have induced some questions considering that the generic top-level domain is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to open a website and the way in which this has to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be designed in such a way as to be accessed by the majority of web browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Because the dot MOBI Registry does not register domains directly, you can book a .MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an existing domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you obtain its EPP code from your current registrar company. If you do that, you’ll be able to control your domain(s) and web hosting account from one and the same place – our Hepsia Control Panel tool.
